Joseph Stanley was a Marine in World War II. His military experiences are not well-known. According to a note written by Don Varnum in April or May 1945, Joe, Don, and Louie Chouinard visited together "on one of those South Sea Paradises," believed to be Okinawa. Don was with the 2nd Marine Division and Louie was with the 6th Marine Division. Both divisions were involved with the Battle of Okinawa.

 

Joe is remembered to have lived in Woodville, attended Hopkinton High School, and his father -- Joe, Sr. -- was an officer in the US Navy.
